International Wind Academy Lolland was established on 12 October 2006

Rudbjerg Municipality took the initiative to carry out considerations about creating development related to wind power in connection with Energy E2 decided to establish a test site for series 0 offshore wind turbines in Vestlolland.

In collaboration with stakeholders within the wind power sector, a vision was drawn up in 2005-2006 which includes a number of potential opportunities for development on Lolland in relation to wind power. This vision was named Wind Power Academy and was prepared by Tage Dræby Rådgivning, with the participation of Business Councilor Lolland Falster in the working group.

The preliminary study has been organized in collaboration with a steering group consisting of:

Tom Larsen, Rudbjerg Municipality (chairman)

Per Hjelmsted Pedersen, Energy E2 (Dong energy)

Peter Hauge Madsen, Siemens Wind Power A/S

Hans Vestergaard, Vestas Wind Systems A/S

The establishment:

Based on the recommendations of activities, the International Wind Academy Lolland was established on 12 October 2006. with a view to exploiting potential based on a strategy of trying to see established initiatives that strengthen technology development and the creation of knowledge within wind turbine operation.

A network was created between producers, sub-suppliers and energy producers, so that the future demands of the global energy market can be matched. IWAL (ed. International Wind Academy Lolland)

The need for staff training was clear, and initiatives for testing and development of wind turbine installers and wind technician training were carried out. The learning and experience has contributed to IWAL being at the forefront of the development that has now become widespread, with actually certified security courses GWO.

IWAL (ed. International Wind Academy Lolland) has been involved from the start and was first certified by Bureau Veritas on 12 September 2012.

It is with great pleasure that today we, as one of the few companies in Denmark, can offer our customers certified courses, which have become a general requirement to be able to work in the wind turbine industry over most of the world.
