About the course

In all accident situations, it is a rule that you must save yourself before you can save others. The GWO course is basically based on the IMO course STCW 1-1 (which we also offer), which deals with personal safety at sea and what options you have to save your life with the equipment found on ships and life rafts. We review safety and rescue equipment as well as the dangers of staying in cold water for a long time. We talk about how to best adapt to the situation and survive as long as possible, as well as review first aid for injuries related to being in the water. The day ends with practical exercises in what has been learned, in the sea and on the beach at a local port.

Objectives:

The student can demonstrate knowledge of dangers and symptoms in relation to hypothermia and drowning.

The student has an understanding of the advantages and limitations of personal safety equipment, as well as personal fall protection equipment. The participant can put on the equipment and pack it correctly.

The student can carry out a safe transfer from vessel to foundation.

The student has knowledge of emergency and safety procedures on installations, vessels and wind turbines.

The student has knowledge of alarm systems at sea and global maritime security system.

The student may have knowledge of man overboard procedures.

The student has knowledge of CPR and AED in connection with drowning accidents

The student can perform evacuation from offshore turbines using the Constant Rate Descender.

The student can demonstrate individual and joint survival techniques at sea.
